| For its (pounds) 5 late-night concerts the Usher
Hall shakes off Edwardian formality and dresses down in black T-shirts, but
the music is some of the best this Festival has to offer. In the haunting
chamber version of Mahler's Das Lied Von Der Erde the six deeply nostalgic
songs are radiantly performed by tenor Jonas Kaufman, mezzo Alice
Coote and the Edinburgh Festival Ensemble under Garry Walker. Quite the best
thing of the week. |
