... But the young tenor Jonas Kaufmann sang one of the most emotionally raw,
risk-taking and revelatory accounts of Schumann's Dichterliebe I've ever
heard. This is a fascinating voice -baritonal, rising to a visceral
Italianate top -allied to penetrating intelligence and dark, husky,
film-star looks, designer stubble and a mop of tousled curls: there's star
material here, the classical "discovery" of the 2001 festival so far. |
